API referenceSupportGrafana alerts on your iPhone
Grafana alerts arrive at their severity from one Webhook contact point, and the same notification changes when they clear.
What you need#
- Nowlark on your iPhone, and your key from Settings › Connect an App › Create Your Key. Copy it when it is shown, because it is shown once. It starts
nlk_. - Grafana with alerting set up.
Add Nowlark to Grafana#
- In Grafana, open Alerting › Contact points and click + Add contact point. Name it
Nowlark. - From the Integration list, choose Webhook, and paste this as the URL:
https://nowlark.com/v1/hooks/grafana
- Open Optional Webhook settings. Leave Authentication Header Scheme on Bearer, and paste your key,
nlk_…, as Authentication Header Credentials. - Click Test. A test alert arrives on your iPhone within seconds, at High priority. Then click Save contact point.
- Open Alerting › Notification policies and set the default policy's contact point to
Nowlark, or chooseNowlarkas the contact point in one alert rule.
Your key goes in an authorization field, which Grafana stores securely, not in the address.
What arrives#
| In Grafana | On your iPhone |
|---|---|
An alert fires |
"[FIRING:1]" and the alert's name, with its summary underneath. Tap it to open the alert in Grafana. |
It resolves |
The same notification changes to show it is resolved. No second alert to clear. |
Several alerts in one group |
One notification, with up to five of them summarised. |
The alert's severity label sets the priority: critical or page is Urgent and breaks through Focus modes, warning, error or high is High, and resolved is Normal. An alert with no severity label arrives at High.
Each alert arrives under the source Grafana. In the app's Sources tab you can give it a colour, and with the Upgrade Pass its own tone.
On a team channel#
Use a channel key instead of your own, and everyone on the channel gets the alert. When Grafana reports it resolved, the alert is resolved on the channel too, and no later escalation step goes out for it. Channels and escalation covers the rest.
