Sentry alerts on your iPhone

Sentry issue alerts arrive at the error's level and metric alerts at their severity, and the same notification changes when Sentry resolves it.

N
SENTRY · nowTypeError: Cannot read properties of undefinedapp/checkout.js in submitOrder · Checkout errors
An issue alert, with where the error happened and the alert rule that fired.

What you need#

  • Nowlark on your iPhone, and your key from Settings › Connect an App › Create Your Key. Copy it when it is shown, because it is shown once. It starts nlk_.
  • A Sentry organization where you are an owner or manager, so you can add an integration.

Add Nowlark to Sentry#

  1. In Sentry, open Settings › Developer Settings and create an internal integration named Nowlark.
  2. Paste this as its Webhook URL, with your own key in place of nlk_…:
https://nowlark.com/v1/hooks/sentry?key=nlk_…
  1. Turn on Alert Action.
  2. Under Permissions, give Issue & Event Read access, and under Webhooks tick issue, so a resolved issue reaches you too. Then save.
  3. In each alert that should reach your iPhone, add the action Send a notification via Nowlark. The next time that alert fires, it arrives on your iPhone.

Sentry cannot add a header to its webhooks, so the key goes in the address. Make a key just for Sentry. If the address leaks, revoke that key in Settings › Connect an App, and your other senders keep working.

What arrives#

In Sentry On your iPhone
An issue alert fires
The error's title, with where it happened and the alert's name underneath. Tap it to open the event in Sentry.
A metric alert goes critical
"Critical: p95 latency over 2s", at Urgent priority, so it breaks through Focus modes. Warning is High.
It resolves
The same notification changes to "Resolved". No second alert to clear.
A new issue, or one that comes back
"New issue" or "Back again", with its short ID.

An error's level sets the notification's priority: fatal is Urgent, error is High, warning is Normal and info is Low. Assigning or archiving an issue sends nothing.

Each alert arrives under the source Sentry. In the app's Sources tab you can give it a colour, and with the Upgrade Pass its own tone.

On a team channel#

Use a channel key instead of your own, and everyone on the channel gets the alert. When Sentry resolves the issue or the metric alert, the alert is resolved on the channel too, and no later escalation step goes out for it. Channels and escalation covers the rest.
